Configure TFTP Server Using DHCP Option 66 (Cisco)

Polycom phones can be configured using DHCP Option 66 to set the TFTP server for the phones.

Here is an example DHCP configuration for a Cisco router that has DHCP option 66 enabled:

ip dhcp pool LAN

  network 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0

  dns-server 8.8.8.8 4.4.4.4

  default-router 192.168.0.1

  option 66 ip 192.168.0.250

In order to set the DHCP option 66 you can do so either by IP address or by the FQDN, but you can only do one or the other.

Example using IP of TFTP server:

hostname(config)# dhcpd option 66 ip 192.168.1.250

Example using FQDN:

hostname(config)# dhcpd option 66 ascii exampleserver
